THE SCIENTIFIC VALUE OF MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION
Medical illustration has one purpose: To communicate complex medical concepts and procedures clearly and concisely. Illustration is considered to be an invaluable tool for healthcare - in particular, for its ability to clarify and visually convey factual truth tailored to a specific audience.
Focused Detail
Medical illustration has the unique ability to emphasize and isolate the specifics of the anatomical subject. It uses minute and intricate detail where needed, while, at the same time, leaving out any visual elements that may distract or confuse the viewer from your main idea.
Scientific Rigor
Medical illustrations must depict the subject with absolute precision. Form, scale, color, texture, and other elements are used by the illustrator to reflect an objective reality faithfully. At the same time, every visual aspect needs to adhere to strict anatomical and medical requirements.
Advanced Research
Medical illustrators require advanced education in both the life sciences and visual communication. Their job includes reading scientific papers and journals, observing surgeries or lab procedures, and working closely with physicians, surgeons, scientists, and other specialists.
My Workflow
Discovery session
During this initial consultation, we’ll determine the goals and requirements of the project. We’ll establish deadlines and figure out the specifics of every single deliverable.
Research + Q&A
During a 3-5 day period, I will study your information in detail. A second session may be needed for questions and to make sure we're in the same page on every concept.
Sketch proposal
You'll receive a rough sketch or design. Providing both of us the opportunity to adjust details or make considerable changes. Two or three rounds of revisions are included in this process.
Labor & Delivery
Once the final sketch and the exact media are approved, I’ll transform it into a fully rendered illustration. The work will be delivered in the requested digital media file types.
